University of Ioannina

I completed my doctoral thesis at the University of Ioannina from the end of 2008 on Balkan historiography and literature and my second master's degree in philosophy (in 2014). Prior to my decision to continue my studies at the University of Ioannina, I was there as a student under the Erasmus program. During my stay as an Erasmus student I realized that the University of Ioannina provides students with everything they need to acquire the necessary knowledge. A nice, large campus with many buildings, a hospital, hotplates, gyms (two), a stadium, an incredible library and free meals. The fireplaces were new, with very fast internet, with washing machines, dryers, huge kitchens with refrigerators, ovens etc. For any of these students we did not pay extra. My lessons were at a very good level and my professors are among the best scientists in their fields. My experience with the University of Ioannina was more than satisfactory.

The best part of the University of Ioannina is undoubtedly the Library. There is a huge Library, with hundreds of books, very well organized in order to help you find what you are looking for, as soon as possible.What is more, the environment is very friendly so you can spend your day there studying, using your own or even the Library's computer. There is also a social network provided. In addition, in every department, there are highly educated professors and people working at the secretary of the department willing to guide you, help you and answer to all of your questions. The books, projects, and teachers are very helpful and they played an important role in my education. I was studying at the University of Ioannina 4 years, and I have to admit that it was an amazing experience.

Overall the level of the students and the studies programmes are quite high; you really get the chance to immerse yourself in the topic of the studies and learn a lot, not just touching the surface. Some of the professors will give you a chance to work closer to them, but you need to show them also the will. The campus is beautiful, but full of dogs and the facilities are sometime not the best. The student restaurant/caffeterias are very nice and they have quality food. The university itself is a 20 minutes from the city center, which on one hand creates an appropriate environment for the university to be a community and not gather random people/outsiders as other Greek universities located in the city center, but transportation is bit tough after midnight until early morning as it counts only on public buses and taxis. It's next to the university hospital and they're a lot of student clubs and teams in the university, such as AEGEE-Ioannina which are really cool. The city is a pure student city, very alive in the winter.

I attended the University of Ioannina from 2011 to 2017 at the Department of "Materials Science and Engineering " (5 years degree diploma). All these years i come to the conclusion that the university of Ioannina is a particularly active university that is trying to grow constantly scientifically, academically and culturally (Seminars, colloquium, festivals, speeches, events etc.). In the particular department that I attended, we had all types of professors from indifferent to distinguished scientists professors, fortunately the professors who are actually doing good work are the majority and they are more activated than those who "damage" the students and the university. The facilities, the equipment and the consumables were not always sufficient for the proper conduct for the courses and the operation of the laboratories, but because of these professors who really try their best, we have managed to overcome these difficulties. At this departments you have to attend to 63 courses (48 required courses and pick 15 out of 46 optional courses) and present a thesis. Of course the free tuition, the free supply of scientific books and manuscripts and the free feeding club for the students certainly is a great advantage for the university. There is big prospect for evolution!

I was a student at the University of Ioannina in the mathematics department. The University of Ioannina is characterized by its organization. It has campuses for student accommodation, a university gym as well as a restaurant where all students can eat.

The University of Ioannina is one of the biggest in Greece, located in the north part of the country at one beautiful city, called Ioannina. The University Includes a lot of departments and it´s separated in the school of Philosophy, School of sciences, school of health sciences, school of education, school of economics and social sciences, school of fine arts and school of architectural engineering. Even if it is not specialized in a specific field of studies, the University offers a high educational level. A lot of students desire to do their bachelor degree here because of the opportunities they can have both at the University and at the city. The buildings are not too new, but the most of the times are clean and in the classes, there is enough space for everyone. A big disadvantage is that is not close to the center of the city so you need to use the bus. In Greece, all the Universities are tuition-free so we can all take advantage of this. Furthermore, in my University, there are some masters in which you can be enrolled without paying. In general, I consider that every student who chooses to study here will have a good and unforgettable experience for sure.

I think he was a good university with a good level of education and good teachers. In my years the building was new, it had a new library and a club for feeding students free of charge. The library could have been better equipped and with better access to electronic services. He had good prospects for evolution.
