New international collaboration: signed the agreement between the University of Insubria and the University of NevadaMon, 08/07/2024 - 12:32 Paragrafo An important collaboration agreement between the University of Insubria and the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR), an American public University founded in 1874, was signed on Friday, July 5 in Como, in the cloister of Sant'Abbondio.The agreement between the two institutions was signed by Professor Giorgio Maria Zamperetti, delegate of the Rector of Internationalization and the President of UNR Brian Sandoval, as well as countersigned by professors Alessandro Michetti and Sundeep Chandra, promoters of the initiative. Witness of honor of the ceremony the mayor of Como Alessandro Rapinese, accompanied by the assessor at the University Chiara Bodero Maccabeo. The interest of the city of Como, famous worldwide for its lake, is evident because the University of Nevada has a campus in Lake Tahoe, the largest alpine lake in North America: the first development area of the agreement, promoted by the two teachers involved, It is about limnology, the science that studies lakes.The agreement initially provides for the exchange of two students per year, with the recognition of the educational activities carried out in the partner institution. A contribution to the EU to support mobility was also requested.Considering the characteristics of the University of Nevada, which offers its 20,000 students about 500 first and second level degree programs and which has about 1070 teachers and researchers divided into 40 departments, the common intention is to develop the agreement in multiple directions. The ceremony was attended by several department directors and heads of degree courses from Insubria, interested in developing strands of collaboration with UNR. Among them Professors Luigina Guasti, Nicoletta Sabadini, Chiara Perini and Roberta Minazzi, who exchanged contacts with the US delegation for future projects.In the afternoon the delegation was welcomed in the Department of Science and High Technology for a visit to the facilities and for two seminars on the topics «International Collaborative Work on Lakes» and «Collaborations in Hydrochemistry».The mayor of Como Alessandro Rapinese said: The collaboration with our University is increasingly close and profitable. International mobility on the rise for Insubria lecturers and technical and administrative staff: 132 will leave in 2024-25 for research, teaching and trainingMon, 17/06/2024 - 13:30 Paragrafo A total of 132 lecturers and members of the technical and administrative staff of Insubria University will spend a period abroad for research, teaching or training activities in the coming academic year, thanks to the mobility grants approved a few days ago by the University Commission for International Relations, based on funds allocated by the Board of Directors or from the European Union. This is the highest number ever reached, a sign of the progress in the internationalisation of our university.In particular, 29 lecturers will go abroad for research activities, one third of them outside Europe, while 26 will spend a period in a European consortium university for a teaching experience under the Erasmus programme. In addition, 77 members of the technical-administrative staff will participate in a staff week in the offices of foreign universities similar to Insubria's, or will attend an intensive English language enhancement course abroad. On their return, the grant recipients will have to submit a detailed and documented report on the activities carried out and the results achieved.Student mobility is also on the rise: having completed the selections for the Erasmus call for applications launched in February, 375 students will be leaving in the 2024-25 academic year, including 311 for Erasmus Study, 45 for Erasmus Traineeship and 19 with a special programme called the Blended Intensive Programme. Insubria is also attractive to foreign students wishing to spend a period of study in Varese or Como: the still partial data shows 149 mobility requests from European students on the various courses provided by our University.Lastly, six one-week international Summer Schools for graduates have been approved and co-financed, which will bring many lecturers from foreign universities to Varese or Como. Three are organised by the Department of Law, Economics and Culture, the others by the Department of Economics, the Department of Science and High Technology, and the Department of Humanities and Innovation for the Territory. The topics of the Summer Schools range from climate change to bioeconomics, from physics to sustainable tourism, from Mediterranean myths to private international law. The University of Insubria present at the mission of the Lombardy Region in the United States: promoted collaboration and excellenceWed, 29/05/2024 - 17:31 Paragrafo The institutional mission of the Lombardy Region in the United States was held from 19 to 26 May, with the aim of promoting businesses and universities in Lombardy, enhancing the attractiveness of a territory rich in productive and cultural excellence. The mission was led by President Attilio Fontana, accompanied by the Councillor for Welfare Guido Bertolaso, the Undersecretary to the Presidency with responsibility for International Relations Raffaele Cattaneo and the President of Assolombarda Alessandro Spada.The Italian academic world is also the protagonist of this mission, in order to intensify relations with American universities and to promote its research and educational offer. Representing the University of Insubria was the delegate of the rector of Internationalization, Professor Giorgio Maria Zamperetti, who in Washington met Paolo Messa, vice president of the National Italian America Foundation, Niaf, the expression of 20 million Italian American citizens living in the United States with the aim of keeping alive the rich cultural heritage of this important community. To this end, the Niaf Foundation actively collaborates with the United States Congress and the White House on all major issues affecting Italian Americans. From the interview emerged the idea of jointly promoting scholarships for excellent students of Italian origin who, continuing their studies in Insubria, are immersed in their roots and in the Italian language and, if they return to the United States, can be a witness to the excellence of the University and the Lombardy area. Professor Zamperetti met at the Consulate General of Italy in Chicago also the delegation of the Governor State University, led by its Dean Cheryl Green. During these moments of work, the possible developments of the collaboration started downstream of the Memorandum of Understanding, signed between the two universities last year, which has already produced important projects in the field of Restorative Justice promoted by the Center for Studies on Restorative Justice and Mediation, to which include the teachers of criminal law Grazia Mannozzi, Chiara Perini and Gilda Ripamonti.In the last stage of the mission, in Indianapolis, the rector’s delegate illustrated the excellence of the University of Insubria in front of the qualified audience of the Global Economic Summit 2024, an event reserved for the leaders of US and international economic and cultural institutions. In his speech, Professor Zamperetti stressed that for students destined to become the future US ruling class, spending a period of training abroad must now be considered a necessity, to acquire soft skills and get a more complete and open vision of a changing world.This is why the University of Insubria is an excellent option for American students, thanks to its English language master’s degrees ranging from biotechnology to computer science, from business management to sustainable tourism to mathematics and physics. A high-quality educational offer that provides further opportunities for internationalization through dual-degree courses with prestigious European universities. Success for the first International Relations Day of the University of Insubria: diplomats from 50 countries in ComoTue, 14/05/2024 - 12:23 Paragrafo Full success on Friday, May 10 in Como for the first International Relations Day of the University of Insubria, promoted by Professor Giorgio Maria Zamperetti, delegate of the Rector to internationalization, and the University Commission for International Relations.In the fifteenth-century Cloister of Sant'Abbondio diplomats from almost 50 countries arrived, welcomed by about sixty teachers and researchers from all departments, student representatives and numerous international students from Insubria, who were able to have a first informal discussion with the important guests during the initial networking coffee.In a packed auditorium, after the greeting of the mayor of Como Alessandro Rapinese, opened the speeches Filippo La Rosa, deputy director general for public and cultural diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He stressed the importance of cultural diplomacy to help the university world in building bridges of knowledge, peace and progress. The rector’s delegate concluded by drawing the attention of diplomats on how the University of Insubria is in first place for internationalization among Lombard universities of its size in the annual Censis ranking.The University has been told through  video «Insubria: the excellence close to you» trasmetted for the first time at this event and created specifically to promote the University internationally.  The video presented  the face of a Sri Lankan student, Deshani Pagoda, enrolled at the first year of Science of Linguistic Mediation in Insubria and who was present at the event.
