Insubria in New York for the 23rd United Nations World Conference: the fight against poverty through an ethical artificial intelligenceTue, 09/04/2024 - 14:43 Paragrafo The 12th April, at the United Nations headquarters in New York, the University of Insubria will be present at the XXIII Infopoverty World Conference entitled "Ai disrupts digital processes: how to act to guarantee human rights and provide e-welfare for all?". Artificial intelligence and digital technologies are pervading international debates and daily life all over the world. The Covid-19 pandemic and the harrowing realities of ongoing wars are significantly reshaping our perspectives on the imminent future, amplifying the concerns and uncertainties, but also the many opportunities surrounding a digitally dominated world. The conference will therefore address the role of artificial intelligence in the fight against poverty to improve the difficult living conditions that our society still faces. Success of the second Open Day for high school students in LuganoThu, 07/03/2024 - 13:26 Paragrafo The second Insubria University Open Day dedicated to Swiss high school students took place successfully on 6 March. The comforting results of last year's edition prompted Professor Giorgio Maria Zamperetti, the Rector's delegate for Internationalisation, and Professor Michela Prest, the Rector's delegate for Communication, Orientation and Fundraising, to continue their efforts to disseminate the academic reality of Insubria University in the neighbouring Confederation.The event took place in the reception hall of the Consulate General of Italy, where about one hundred students from Ticino flocked to meet lecturers, students and university staff to learn more about the contents of the degree courses of the Varese and Como campuses, with their successful professional paths in the areas of health and sports, science and technology, economics, law and the human and social sciences.There was particular interest in the wide range of international mobility opportunities offered by Insubria, including several with Swiss universities. Consul General Gabriele Meucci said: «I am delighted to have once again hosted the Open Day, which again this year attracted the enthusiastic interest of numerous schools in Ticino. The recognised excellence of the University of Insubria and the geographical and cultural proximity create fertile ground for these cultural exchanges in the Insubric region. Erasmus applications by 29 February: 1293 places in 28 countries for Insubria studentsFri, 23/02/2024 - 10:35 Paragrafo The deadline to apply for a study abroad experience with Erasmus+ expires on 29 February, an opportunity to enrich one's academic and personal career thanks to the European Union programme that offers the chance to immerse oneself in new cultures, improve language skills and contribute to the construction of a more inclusive and united Europe. In recent academic years, the University of Insubria has seen a steady increase in the number of incoming and outgoing Erasmus students, despite the challenges related to the Covid-19 pandemic. In the academic year 2020-21 more than 150 students participated in the programme, while in the following year the number increased to more than 400. In 2022-23, the programme involved more than 450 students, peaking at more than 520 students in 2023-24.This year the Erasmus+ programme offers almost 1293 places in 276 universities in 28 countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Croatia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Lithuania, Latvia, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, the Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom.The contribution granted to Erasmus students ranges from 500 to 650 euros per month for Eramus + Study and Erasmus + Traineeship, while the contribution of 650 euros for the Double Degree is fixed.Since last year, the Top up supplementary contribution has been introduced, divided into two types defined by the call for applications: "opportunity", which provides 250 euros for students with specific difficulties (disability, Isee, workers, with minor children, orphans and victims of terrorism or crime), and "travel" for those who travel by sustainable means (the amount varies according to the number of kilometres between the university's registered office and the destination).The selections are based on the Erasmus+ formula, which takes into account a weighted average of the examinations recorded on one's transcript at the call deadline and the ratio between credits acquired and credits on one's transcript in the year of enrolment.It is possible to apply for both Erasmus + Study and Erasmus + Traineeship at the same time and to carry out the mobility experiences in the same academic year, as long as the periods do not overlap, or to leave for only one of the two experiences while renouncing the other; it is not possible to carry out the two mobility experiences in two different academic years. Both programmes are open to all students and PhD students regularly enrolled at the university, current and repeat students for no more than one year, who have registered at least one examination on their transcript. Students who have already participated in the Erasmus+ programme in previous years may also apply: the months already completed will be deducted from the mobility months available.The Erasmus + Study programme allows students to spend a continuous period of study abroad, to use the facilities of the host institution and to obtain full recognition of the activities carried out and passed. The stay may last from 2 to 12 months for each cycle of studies; 24 months for single-cycle master's degrees. At least 20 Cfu must be acquired per semester abroad. For the first semester or the entire year you start between August and October 2024; for the second semester between January and March 2025. For all, return is mandatory by 31 December 2025.The Erasmus + Traineeship is an internship experience abroad to be carried out, even after graduation, in a company or institution in one of the European countries participating in the programme. The stay lasts between 2 and 12 months, 24 months for single-cycle master's degrees.It is not necessary to acquire a minimum number of Cfu abroad, it is however necessary to provide for the acquisition of a number of credits appropriate to the duration and type of activities.Date of departure and duration of the placement will be agreed directly with the foreign destination: it will be possible to start from 1 June 2024 with mandatory return by 31 December 2025.The host institution will be found directly by the candidate, who will inform the International Relations Office by attaching the Learning Agreement 1st part to the application form as proof of agreement between the parties.Another opportunity offered by the University of Insubria is the Double Degree, a mobility that leads to the achievement of the final degree both in the home and in the host institution. This is a different selection process, but the mechanisms and documents are the same as those used for Erasmus+ Study.The Double Degree is dedicated to students enrolled in the first year of the master's degree associated with a double degree programme and to students enrolled in the final year of the three-year degree programme who plan to enrol for the academic year 2024/25 in the master's degree associated with a double degree programme.
