Description

The University of Westminster is a London-based public institution that counts fashion designer Vivienne Westwood, Burberry’s chief executive officer Christopher Bailey, and Pink Floyd co-founder Roger Waters, among its former students.

The university dates back to 1838, when the English engineer and aeronautics expert Sir George Cayley, founded the Polytechnic Institution at Regent Street. It was the first polytechnic in the UK and became the University of Westminster in 1992.

The university prides itself on its pioneering ethos and has been home to a number of notable moments in history. For example, in 1841 it opened the first public photographic portrait studio in Europe and hosted the first UK public moving picture display, organised by the Lumiere brothers, in 1896. More recently, it became the first UK partner university for UN Habitat, the agency dealing with human settlement and development.

With a strong emphasis on internationalisation, the university today opens its doors to over 22,000 students, hailing from every continent.

It is arranged across four campuses, three in central London (Cavendish, Marylebone and Regent Street) and one (Harrow) in north-west London, and comprises five faculties: the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Westminster Business School, Westminster Law School, and Westminster School of Media, Arts and Design.

The university’s central London location benefits from nearby access to the city’s many cultural attractions, while a recent £20m investment in its facilities has resulted in Westminster being able to offer fully-equipped sports facilities to students, as well as specialist resources, such as the purpose-built Financial Markets Suite.

It also has its own gallery spaces for the display of contemporary art and architecture, where exhibitions, events and public talks regularly take place.

The ability to use the Bloomberg Trading Terminals at our disposal would probably be the most valued aspect to me about this University as it really helped with my CV and general practical knowledge on financial trading. I think the material we were taught was great as well. However, not having campus placement interviews was something I thought could’ve been added since I’m an international Masters’s student, it’s hard for me to find a job as it is, the extra help from the University would help! Overall, the facilities, teaching, location of the University, etc, were all great and I definitely recommend this University to prospective students!

Everything is perfect. the modules are not that stimulating as I wanted it, not enough collaboration and experiences working with external partners like companies and a chance to gain skills. The teachers are the best helpful and resourceful.

University of Westminster is one of the few universities that offers a complete course in Music Business Management, thus allowing student to get a glimpse into the reality of the music industry. All the professors are professionals and are available to give personalised advice to all students. The main perk of this course is the opportunity to attend seminars and meet experts that currently dominate the market.

Although many people overlook this university due to it not being a Russel group uni, I believe it's great because of the direct help and support you get from the teachers and support staff. It's smaller in comparison to some well-known ones in London, but that just means it's better in terms of getting a lot of help from the uni. The facilities are all state of the art, the lecturers are all great, with years of experience, some transferring from Russel group universities and so on. the location of the university is also amazing as it's right in the heart of London!

The university was a great one course-wise, I graduated with a Bachelor in Contemporary Media Practice, its diversity in choice of media that we could experiment with allowing students to get experience. However, the campus I was on was in Harrow, making it hard to travel and not having the student life that I thought I would.

The tutors have an open door policy which makes them readily available at any time to provide support. The student body is very diverse and there is a plethora of societies to find where you belong. Meeting people from varying backgrounds and experience is something I enjoyed a lot from this university and something you can expect a lot of. It welcomes everyone from everywhere and prides itself in it.
