Description

The University of Bradford officially became a university in 1966, but can trace its origins back to the establishment of the industrial West Yorkshire town’s Mechanics Institute in 1832.

Students from some 150 countries study at the university, and about a third of its undergraduates are mature students.

The University of Bradford was the first higher education institution in the UK to open a modern business school and the first outside London to offer part-time degrees.

It was also the first British university to open a Department of Peace Studies, in 1973, and Bradford now boasts the largest higher education centre for the study of conflict resolution and peace in the world.

The institution’s first chancellor Harold WIlson, a former UK prime minister, said of the university: "You can be confident of your university developing in the future with the same dynamism as has been shown in the past – educating men and women who receive education and training relevant to the needs of our changing society."

To this day, the University of Bradford aims to develop courses and curricula that reflect the requirements of the modern world. It has partner institutions in countries across the world, including the Philippines, India, Tanzania and Hong Kong.

The university is undergoing an £84 million redevelopment programme, which will include a new dedicated student area to be known as Student Central, featuring study spaces, bars and other social areas.

Former Bradford students include mobile telecommunications entrepreneur Mo Ibrahim; poet John Hegley; and former UK government minister Ann Taylor.

University of Bradford is a well reputed university in the Uk. I have experienced student friendly environment here and they have welcoming behaviour for international student. I found that both academic and administrative staff are always ready to help out students. One of the best things about this university is it's career and employability services. On weekly basis they post opportunities and guide students about their career. I never travelled outside my home country but when i came to this university i felt it like home. They organize alot of social activities due which i got many international friends here. I'd recommend this university because this place enabled me not to get education only but it remarkably contributed for my personal development.

Learning is great as it empowers students to become independent critical thinkers through group works, study visits and classroom interaction with lecturers. Lessons are delivered in such a way that they are interactive and participatory. Moreover, lecturers are open and accessible to students at all times. For international students, there is a very effective students support team that provides handy support throughout the application process and during your time of studies. Furthermore, the cost of living in Bradford is cheaper as compared to many cities in the UK.

I am an international student, and I have to say I was afraid of not settling in properly. Once I came, everyone was so nice, friendly and approachable. It feels like I’m home, although I’m far away from it. The uni staff is always there to help you, the facilities are great, completely modern and the problems we face in lectures are up to date. This university prepares you for the real work world, and if you come here you won’t be disappointed.

Overall the University is good, with some talented people working here. However the city is mostly a rough. Inside campus is good, but difficult outside campus given its located in Bradford. Therefore I rate it 6/10

I am a Portuguese student and I left everything from my previous life with friends and family to discover a new country, with different people and culture. I was so scared that I was going to be left out for some reason, but when I arrived the friendly environment that I discovered vanished away all my fears. Bradford is the place where you can meet your new family: your friends for life! The student life doesn’t stop around here, you will always have something to do, somewhere to go, someone to be with. You Will never feel alone, as you always have older students who are there to help you. The university staff is so organized and so interested in you and your feelings that you don’t really feel like just one more student. In Bradford you feel like you matter, your voice is heard! Everything is possible, the world is ours ?

The University of Bradford is one of the most diversifies universities within the Yorkshire area, offering a wide range of programs and students activities that involve students in the social life to create a vibrant and rich environment that students need. The city is relatively affordable with accommodation options ranged from Private studios to shared houses with a variable price range. There are many affordable food options around the campus which makes life easier as well as suitable for students living on their own and too busy to cook for themselves.
