Siberian Federal University

The Siberian Federal University (SibFu) was established in 2006 following the merging of four universities in Krasnoyarsk, a city in central Siberian Russia.

The academic focus of SibFU is humanities and sciences based, with its schools ranging from law to space and information technologies. There is also a school of military training at the university, which is comprised of a department for Russian servicemen since 1957, and a training centre for education since 2008. Over its history the school has trained over 30,000 reserve officers.

The university motto of "manage your future" is certainly appropriate, for SibFU is a rapidly expanding academic institution and can already boast of about 35,000 enrolled students engaged in over 120 educational programmes focusing on 50 different career paths. As well as a wide range of course options, SibFU contains excellent facilities and cutting edge technology, including a supercomputer, observatory, and a biotechnical lab.

There are also a wide array of extracurricular activities available. For those interested in sport and exercise the university has facilities such as artificial turf football pitches, ski slopes and indoor gymnasiums, and in the cultural arena there are vocal studios, dance groups and literature societies available.

For international students who wish to study at SibFU, the university offers a prepatory course in which students can obtain a certificate of Russian Proficiency, a qualification which will then enable them to take any degree programme at the university. SibFu also offers PhD programmes taught in English in six different fields, though applicants will have to pass an oral language and specialism exam beforehand.
