ITMO University

ITMO University is a large state university located in Saint Petersburg in Russia.

The university offers 25 bachelor's programmes across six academic schools. There are also master's degree programmes in more than 75 majors. The language of instruction across the university is Russian, although the university also offers a range of international master's programmes delivered in English.

There is also a Special Foundation Programme to help students integrate into the Russian education system more smoothly. It helps students that have little or no knowledge of the Russian language to learn the necessary skills to enrol on a degree programme at the university.

The top majors that students can study include translational information technologies; computer technologies and control; photonics; biotechnology and cryogenic systems and entrepreneurship and innovations.

It is one of Russia's National Research Universities. Some of the top research fields at the university include smart technologies and robotics; photonics and quantum communications; life sciences and translational medicine and ecology and urban science among others.

The university collaborates with many businesses based in St Petersburg to enable students to seek internships and future employment.

There are a variety of student organisations at the university that students can get involved with including student unions for both international and domestic students, an orchestra, student radio, science society, volunteer centre and many others. Students can also get involved with many sports including basketball, volleyball, mountain skiing, tennis, swimming and many others.

The institution offers summer and winter schools. These give students the opportunity to combine an intensive science, programming or language course with visiting historical sites, museums and theatres around St Petersburg.
