Description

Founded in 1921, in the aftermath of World War I, the University of Leicester was built with the purpose of establishing a living memorial to those who had lost their lives during the conflict. Its motto Ut Vitam Habeant ('so that they may have life') reflects its belief that through research and education, the university would act as a beacon of hope for the future.

Granted its Royal Charter in 1957, Leicester is now one of the UK's leading research universities and prides itself on making contributions that have hade a positive impact on public health, culture, society and the environment.

The university offers over 350 degree programmes across three academic colleges: medicine, biological sciences and psychology, science and engineering, and arts and humanities. Its ethos emphasises a cross-disciplinary approach, innovation and collaboration.

Based in the city of the same name, Leicester has a youthful feel and boasts the largest number of people aged 19 and under in the East Midlands region.

Although it’s the tenth largest city in the UK, it has an abundance of green spaces making it easy to escape the hustle and bustle of urban life. Its main campus, which backs onto 69 acres of park land, is often referred to as the university’s ‘back garden'.

Leicester is one of the most ethnically diverse areas of the UK and its university lays claim to a long-standing record on social inclusiveness.

The city is also among the most economical places to live in the country. In 2015 it was ranked top by HSBC for the second year in a row for being the UK’s most affordable university.

Among the university’s claims to fame are the invention of genetic fingerprinting in 1984 by Professor Sir Alec Jeffreys and the more recent discovery of King Richard III’s mortal remains in a Leicester council car park.

It’s stunning campus and facilities exhibit a high quality of education and motivation to students aspiring big things to achieve in the future. The widely renowned space science, aeronautical, medical and business courses offered by the University are major highlights to its awards and laurels earned over the years. Would highly recommend the university and appraise the high level of teaching provided in various courses.

It's an awesome place with top-notch facilities. The best teachers, very easy to locate. A place that is well organised. The quality was so good that I recommend it to my peers. This is a school that is worth it

Location of university is very good, it is not far from the city centre and all other facilities. The campus is organized good, dormitories are located in a radius of 1 km. Victoria Park is located just 10 meters from Engineering building. Lectors from Math Department were strong enough (skills) and have an excellent background.

The University of Leicester is a diverse university with multiple nationalities and ethnicities so a new student would never feel out of place. The students and staff at the university are very friendly so it is easy to approach people and create a bond with them. The staff is always there to help the students whether it is about education, jobs or personal life. The university has services for almost everything a student could ever need. The university also has multiple societies available for students to join where they can get to know more people based on similar interests or ethnicities/nationalities. Studying a marketing degree at this university has been of great advantage as the assignments are based on real-life work which would be done in an actual internship or workspace. I would highly recommend this university as it is a good place to be at.

I would like to stress the value of having such a close-knit and dedicated modern languages department at the university. The staff knew everyone by name and no problem was too big for any member of the team. Their teaching methods and attentive attitudes made each student feel part of a community. Small class sizes meant that attention to individual progress was so efficient. All of this combined made not only my academic journey a smooth one, but it meant that I was able to build lifelong friendships with my classmates. I would highly recommend my course and the university to others.

As a student from university of Leicester I have a very great experience here working with professional and skilled faculty who responds fast and give me great guidance .as a student I was given more options which many universities don't offer which has helped me in many ways. The ignite program offered by the university which is a way new mode of study that helps students to get in direct contact with the professor's. The student union of the university is great and always give the apt and fast solutions for any problem that we face. I feel great and accomplished to be a student of UOL. The night life and societies were superb, but the actual campus was a concrete jungle, the accommodation for first years was a 45 minute walk away (unless you bought a bus pass), the teachers seemed disengaged and uninspired, they simply read off a presentation, and you had to buy a gym membership to play sports as that was your insurance, which makes sports more expensive than most universities if you did not want to go to the gym.

This university is great in its facilities and student union, their sports areas and gyms are also quite useful and there are an abundance of resources (albeit they are small). One of the major problems with the uni is that it’s in the middle of nowhere, far from the city centre and far from the halls, meaning you can’t do anything there outside of lectures. The library is also very resourceful and has many study spaces.

Overall good ranking some Prof are genuinely good. Not highly regarded in the field of computer science A lot of students around 200 in this year distorts the student to Prof ratio The wrong approach makes the University bad
