Description

Originally established as the Hatfield College of Technology in 1952, the University of Hertfordshire was granted university status in 1992.

The modern institution prides itself on being ‘business-facing’ and claims an innovative approach to teaching, and a wide variety of work placements and overseas study that appeal to employers.

It was among the top 50 ‘best UK universities chosen by major employers’ for producing ready-to-work graduates in THE’s 2015 ranking. The university has also received recognition for its research – it’s one of only a few UK HEIs to have been awarded a ‘European Commission HR Excellence in Research’ badge.

A £120million campus upgrade has transformed Hertfordshire in recent years. The investment has given rise to cutting-edge buildings for film and media, and health and human sciences. In 2011, the university opened a new Law School building that includes a state-of-the-art replica of a Crown Court.

Infrastructure developments are on-going with new student residences and service facilities planned for 2020. The university currently has two ‘on campus’ halls to accommodate its student population of 25,000, which includes almost 3,000 international students from around the world.

It boasts impressive alumni, including the writer/comedian Helen Lederer and jewellery designer Alyssa Smith.

Hertfordshire also has a racing car team currently ranked 26th in the world and estimates that a University of Hertfordshire graduate is among every British Formula 1 team that exists.

With lots of outdoor space and sports facilities, the university has plenty to offer. With a strong ecological focus the university is dedicated to protecting the environment, which has been recognised with first class awards in the People & Planet Green League every year since its inception in 2007.

The university also attracts Harry Potter fans as it offers tours to ‘Muggles’ of the Warner Bros Studios in Leavesden where filming took place. Hertfordshire students, via the university’s film and media courses, also worked on the special effects for Harry Potter, as well as films including Clash of the Titans 2X Men and Captain America.

I started my degree in Sept 2018, this was my first time out of my home country. The best thing about UH is a lot of support for International Students I just felt like home as soon as I landed to UH. Campus life is vibrant and amazing, you have activities for every type of people if you're a party animal hell lot of parties are organised if you are in sports there are so many things going on in the herts sports village and so on. It was pretty challenging for me academically because methods of teaching were very new for me but I always had support and help and there was always someone to guide me through all of it. Overall amazing experience

The University of Hertfordshire is gold-rated for the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF). This is the highest award in the UK achieved by a higher learning institution because of consistently outstanding teaching, learning and outcomes for students. It offers diverse and convenient online undergraduate and postgraduate courses which can be taken full time or part-time. I am an online Master of Public Health postgraduate student from the school of life and medical sciences. The course modules taught are exciting and flexible in learning advanced public health knowledge theory, practice and research skills. There is access to useful study tool resources online such as the library, computer software, career and employment services. Teachers and tutors are available to support students that you never feel alone while studying online. I recommend this university to my friends and anyone who is a working professional that wants to continue with education and learning new skills at the same time.

I love my university and it has opened up my eyes to many things that I wasn’t previously aware of. My degree is extensively coursework based so it requires research but this research has really helped me build my independence and time management skills because they are very organized and actually try their best not to overlap different assignments and have 2 weeks or so between each deadline which is rare in universities. Our tutors and teaching team is ever ready to help and are available around the clock whenever we have a doubt or need any help. The diversity is amazing and it is an all-inclusive place. They also have a mental health club and have weeks and days dedicated to help students with any mental health issues and work on raising awareness on racism etc. They are the definition of balance with both work and play where students are encouraged to enjoy and express themselves as well as study hard. I would recommend this university to everyone and I’m proud to be their alma mater.

It has a great diversity scheme. Thereby promotes several cultures, backgrounds, races, religions. Etc. They also have several activities that help in making new students feel right at home. Herts is home away from home!!
