Description

The University of Dundee is a leading public teaching and research institution in Scotland, United Kingdom.

The university can trace its roots back to 1881, when a wealthy local family donated money for a college to be built in the city. For many years after, Dundee had a partnership with the University of St Andrews, but gained independent university status in 1967.

Today, the university has more than 12,000 full time undergraduate students and around 22 per cent of its total student body are international.

More than 100 courses are taught at undergraduate level, ranging across sciences, business, arts and humanities, health, and law. Dundee’s main university campus is located in the west end of the city, within walking distance of shops, bars and restaurants. Additional facilities are found at Ninewells Hospital, where the school of medicine is based as well as a research centre.

The university’s student union has previously been voted the best in Scotland, and hosts a wide range of events and sports contests. Clubs and social clubs at the university cover a wide range of interests, from the political to the artsy. Sporting facilities include a gym, tennis courts and a 25 metre swimming pool.

There are eight student accommodation halls on and off-campus, offering a range of shared living options.

According to data collected for the Times Higher Education 2020 World University Rankings, Dundee has a staff to student ratio of around 1:17 and a student ratio of 63 per cent women to 37 per cent men.

I feel that it definitely would be a different experience than what I had, depends on different collages and different student personalities.

There are areas that still need improvement but there is a clear sense of accountability and desire to work towards a better university system from administration.

The University is literally in the heart of the city centre, with every facility at a walking distance. Dundee being the fourth biggest city of Scotland it is highly welcoming to international students and generally people from all walks of life. The busy mornings and quiet nights were the highlight for me. The University has a huge Student Union, run by the students themselves, which is perfect for all the party people and caters to students for all types of problems as well. Lastly, University of Dundee is really generous with scholarships and bursaries. Almost all international students I interacted with had some sort of an award to finance their tuition fee.

The University of Dundee is situated in the Scottish city of Dundee which has a population of approximately 150, 000 people. The main campus of the University is situated just 10 minutes away from the center of the city. There are accommodation sites for first-year students very close to the main campus as well. It is no coincidence that the university was named the University of the year for student experience for the year 2020. The Student Union called DUSA turns into a nightclub after 12 and attracts students from all over Scotland due to its popularity. The University of Dundee is an excellent choice for international students as well because of the variety of students from different nationalities who are accepted every year. The city of Dundee is small but since almost 20, 000 students live there, it has all the necessary sites for unbelievable student experience, lots of bars, cafe's, 2 cinemas, great parks and a lot of sports sites. The university offers more than 45 different sports and the university teams compete in many tournaments throughout the year. The level of teaching at the university is very high, with many experienced lecturers who are world-renowned for their achievements and well-known in their fields of study.
