Description

Swansea University is ambitious for its students, staff, and for the institution as a whole. We are on a steep upward trajectory making rapid progress towards our aspiration of being one of the top 200 universities in the world by our centenary in 2020. Our University community thrives on exploration and discovery, and offers the right balance of excellent teachingand research, matched by an enviable quality of life. We are comfortably one of the top 30 research intensive universities in the UK in the recent government-sponsored review of the quality of research in every university (The Research Excellence Framework – REF2014). Ninety per cent of Swansea’s research was judged to be internationally excellent in its impact and a third of our research is now classed as world-leading. This means that our students are taught by, and work alongside, some of the best academic staff in the country and even the world. We aim to deliver an outstanding student experience that provides a lifetime of fantastic memories, matched by courses which equip you with high-level skills and boost your employability. Swansea University is ranked 16th in the UK for graduate employment, further proof that our students are benefitting from our initiatives to help them become global graduates, sought-after in the highly competitive graduate marketplace. As employers tell us that global knowledge and awareness is more important than degree classification in their recruitment processes, our commitment to offer every student the chance to spend time overseas during their studies is more important than ever, and we are delighted that we have been able to achieve an 86% increase in outbound student mobility in the last five years. The momentum we have gained as one of the UK’s most ambitious, research-led universities has made us a natural university of choice for a great many talented students, and the increases in applications to study here are a clear indication of our success. We believe that Swansea University strikes the right balance of excellent teaching and research, matched by a superb quality of life and our exciting campus development plans will herald a new era for the University. The Swansea University Experience • Top 200 most international university in the world (THE, 2016) • Ranked 26th in the UK (REF 2014) • Top 20 UK university for graduate employment (The Times, 2015) • 8th for Student Satisfaction (NSS, 2015) • Seaside campus locations, close to the city centre with easy access to other UK cities, it’s a perfect study location • Excellent award winning student services to support your needs College of Engineering: www.swansea.ac.uk/Engineering College Arts and Humanities: http://www.swansea.ac.uk/artsandhumanities/ College of Human and Health Sciences: http://www.swansea.ac.uk/humanandhealthsciences/ College of Law and Criminology: http://www.swansea.ac.uk/law/ School of Management: http://www.swansea.ac.uk/som/ Swansea University Medical School: http://www.swansea.ac.uk/medicine/ College of Science: http://www.swansea.ac.uk/science/

I really enjoyed my experience at university and I have achieved a lot during my time here. My degree was challenging and rewarding. The majority of the staff were very supportive but there were a few who ran modules poorly and did not provide as much support as was required. This did not impact my overall grade but made the lectures and seminars less enjoyable and required independent work to do well.

Swansea University has been everything I had hoped for and more, so not only I did my undergraduate there, but I have also stayed for a Master's! First of all, it made me love linguistics even more, thanks to all the amazing lecturers that taught me over the years. The academic staff at Swansea University is not only extremely knowledgeable, but also incredibly supporting: whenever you don't quite understand something, or you need some extra help with an assignment, their office door is always open and they are always ready to help! Secondly, Swansea University takes care of its students. Whether it is financial aid or well-being support, the university is always ready to step up for its students. I remember one year a friend of mine was expected to pay the deposit for her new accommodation before the student loan kicked in and the university contacted the landlord to negotiate a later payment date. Also, Swansea University provides so many extracurricular opportunities: from societies to sports to internships and years abroad, you name it! While I was studying for my bachelor's, I had the chance to obtain a professional qualification for teaching English to speakers of other languages (CELTA), thanks to which I got some pretty amazing summer jobs, and I even became a Student Ambassador to earn some extra money. And last but not least, Swansea University is in the perfect location: it is officially the closest university to the beach and it is not far from the Gower, one of the most beautiful places in Europe. One of the things I love the most about Swansea is that I can have BBQs and bonfires on the beach with my friends and that I can run along the seafront. And the nightlife is great too! There are so many different clubs, pubs and restaurants, and going out is never boring or too expensive. Swansea University has a lot to offer and studying there was most definitely one of the best decisions of my life!

Social life has been one of the highlights of my university journey so far. I found it quite easy to make friends. Nightlife is also easy to engage with as most of it happens on the same street in town and it isn't scattered around the city. Academically I am happy with my course and I have found help easy to access whenever I have needed it. I feel like you can always go further if you want to in terms of learning which I find encouraging.

I’ve had a good experience overall at Swansea this year. The MA TESOL course was well organised for the most part, and most lecturers were approachable and knowledgeable. I don’t have anything to say about accommodation or the student union / social aspects of the uni since I wasn’t living on campus or particularly Involved with societies etc. That being said, the uni seems to have a lot of facilities, clubs and events for students. The library is very good, and the library staff are very helpful. Due to COVID-19, there were some hiccups with regard to the transition to online teaching and some other smaller issues that perhaps could have been dealt with earlier than they were. I recommend Swansea Uni to anyone who’s hoping to study there.

Swansea University is a great place to study, and for the full student experience. It’s in a great location, with access to the beach, and in the town centre there are plenty of clubs, pubs, and bars. There’s a wide range of societies, with something for everyone, which is a really great way to get involved and make friends. I tried a few societies, and was on a committee for one in my third year, which definitely helped my organisational skills, and I met so many new people! The lecturers are clearly passionate about what they teach, and always helpful. The course was as expected, we covered a variety of topics, and were able to choose from a wide range of modules in the third year. I loved my time at Swansea University, and I’d go back if I could!

I completed my undergraduate degree at Swansea Uni and I am currently finishing my Masters degree there as well. It has been nothing short of amazing. The teachers are both knowledgeable and incredibly approachable. Singleton Campus is great, 10min walk to a massive beach and parks all around. I am very happy about deciding to move to Swansea and study at Swansea University as I have been welcomed from the start.

I normally wouldn't give such a high rating for anything, then why did I give a 5 star rating for Swansea University? Well, for a couple of reasons : 1)Swansea University is a university that cares about you. Whether it's your mental health or other issues, the university understands and tries to help you out if your performance is being affected. 2)The faculty and staff are very hard working to ensure you get the knowledge and skills to get that edge in your career. 3) Tie-ups with industry leaders like Tata Steel and Boeing ensure gives you a competitive edge over other applicants for a job at their company. 4)Swansea University is a small university compared to other giants, but during the COVID 19 Pandemic, the university has risen to the occasion and decided to help us out in a way that our performance until now won't be heavily affected due to the disruptions after hearing the voices of its students. I am very proud of my University

The teaching staff are really nice and enthusiastic with their teaching. They're always willing to help and answer questions. The collection of books in the library is quite rich. The overall atmosphere is very pleasing, and the surrounding area is really calming since the Singleton campus, where I attended all my lectures and seminars, is located in a park.
