The Indian Institute of Technology Indore (IIT Indore or IITI), located in Madhya Pradesh, is one of the eight Institutes of Technology (IITs) founded by India’s government in 2009.
The institute’s three schools are: engineering; sciences and humanities and social sciences. The total number of courses offered is 527, out of which 288 are undergraduate courses, 239 are postgraduate courses and there are about 50 doctoral courses.
IITI offers four-year Bachelor of Technology programmes in several engineering fields. The school also places a heavy emphasis on research in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, purposefully involving undergraduate students in the forefront of research projects, in the form of an undergraduate research scheme called Promotion of Research and Innovation for Undergraduate Students (PRIUS).
Postgraduate and graduate programmes include PhD and MTech programmes in engineering, and PhD and MSc programmes in basic sciences and humanities. The institute has introduced a curriculum that requires undergraduate students to spend six to nine months of their final year working on projects and internships with academic or industrial exposure.
As an Indian Institute of Technology, IITI is administered centrally by the IITs’ Council, a body specially established by the Government of India.
IIT Indore is extending its influence in the social sphere through its outreach programme led entirely by a students – a group named AVANA that offers education and social welfare packages free of cost to local schools and villages.
