Description

Cardiff Metropolitan University (Prifysgol Metropolitan Caerdydd in Welsh) was known as the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC) until 2011, although it has maintained its close links with the University of Wales.

It is consists of five academic schools: the school of education; health science; management; sport and art and design, although the school of art and design is the oldest (it opened in 1865) and most prestigious.

The four campuses are within a three-mile radius of central Cardiff, and facilities include the famous National Indoor Athletics Centre, the National Lawn Tennis Association Centre and a sports centre that allows for the disabled and able-bodied to train together.

Since 2007, £50 million has been spent on developing CMU’s estate, including the addition of a food industry centre, a £20 million Cardiff School of Management and the Cyncoed campus, which houses the students' union, bar and cafe for student, staff and visitor use. The redesigned school of art and design, by the renowned architecture firm Austin-Smith: Lord was awarded a regional RIBA award in 2015.

It holds sport in high regard and typically falls within the BUCS top 20 institutions (the governing body for British Universities and Colleges Sport). CMU has produced hundreds of international sports stars in over 30 different sports, including seven national rugby coaches, 15 British Lions and several Olympic gold medallists. Cardiff Metropolitan University's student football team plays in the Welsh Premier League (promoted in 2017). Fashion designer Julien MacDonald and TV presenter John Inverdale are also among its alumni.

I really enjoyed my time at Cardiff Metropolitan University. I have to say the most important part of my university journey was the psychology lecturers. They always had time to listen to their students. They changed and improved their services wherever they could. They were excellent lecturers in finding different ways of teaching their students. I would highly recommend this university.

The facilities were good and there isn't anything that stands out as a massive complaint. The Lecture rooms were very warm but nothing AC can't fix. The lectures are mostly good and want you to succeed.

This is a great campus to have your university experience. I have taken so much from my experience here. I have made many friends and have learned so much from my courses. I would highly recommend the school.

Cardiff Met is a small university, there are not many places to go but there are really friendly people and staff. I really enjoy all the places there are to eat inside the Uni - lots of variety. The library is modern with lots of computers and places to work which helps me get my work done in a quietly. To get to the uni there are a lot of transportations and accommodation is pretty close. I love my walk to uni because of the scenery - it is in a great spot. I do not drive but there is nowhere to park on campus anyway so that's not ideal for a student who wants to use their car (but there is party nearby in a residential area). The SU pub could be more lively but the price of drinks is good and the staff is great.   I also love the professors at the university they have really made my years great, not just with learning but feeling like I actually have a place at school where I am accepted. There is also a Spanish class I love to take FOR FREE at Uni with a professor from Spain! That was very exciting to learn a new language for free, it was a fun class and a great way to make new friends with different interests. I feel like I am now fully prepared to take on the real world and workforce because of Cardiff Met.

The university is good, I didn't live in accommodation, so I might have missed a bit about uni life. The facilities are good, and if you don't like the campus catering you are not far from shops. The lecturers are pretty good, they tend to use PowerPoint a lot but it means that the basics of the lecture are available online. Some of the courses actually have more accreditation than Russel Group universities.
