The research-oriented Master’s programme in Political Science is offered at the Institute for Political Science at Goethe Universität Frankfurt. It follows on from the Bachelor’s programme and teaches in-depth and comprehensive knowledge of political science. The Institute for Political Science is one of the largest in Germany and offers a wide range of courses. In the tradition of the internationally renowned Frankfurt Social Sciences department, students on the Master’s programme in Political Science learn how to work independently on the basis of scientific principles and to apply scientific methods and insights as well as to reflect critically on societal connections. The programme in particular allows for an in-depth study of the paradigmatic, theoretical and methodological basics of the subjects as well as key questions of political theory, comparative political science and international relations. A research work placement (project studies) and an obligatory work placement in a professional field of activity allow students to gather experiences that will help them in a future profession and reflect on them systematically. A successfully completed Master’s degree gives graduates the relevant skills for future professions in different fields of politics, society, economy and culture, all of which require solid academic training and specialisations in politics and social sciences. The study programmes also prepares students for a subsequent PhD programme.
