Student has a basic knowledge about the structure of proteins and DNA as well as about their thermodynamic and kinetic properties and mutual interactions. Student understands the basic principles of NMR and X-ray in the structural elucidation of biomolecules. Students understands the structural aspects of biomembranes and transport phenomena as well as basic principles of non-equilibrium thermodynamics in biodisciplines. Students is familiar with the role of redox-active metals and radicals in the damage to biomolecules as well as protective mechanisms against deleterious effects of free radicals. Students is able to apply quantum-chemical calculations of electronic structure of biomolecules.
