Complete University Guide 2022
Cardiff University has climbed five places and remains the number one university in Wales, according to the latest rankings by The Complete University Guide 2022.
The Guide ranks UK universities nationally and in 70 different subject areas, using a range of different measures including student experience and academic performance.
Cardiff University is ranked 25th in the guide coming out top in Wales for six measures: Research Quality, Graduate Prospects – Outcomes, Graduate Prospects – On Track, Student-Staff Ratio, Degree Completion, and Entry Standards.
Cardiff ranked first in the UK for two subjects with Counselling, Psychotherapy & Occupational Therapy, and Optometry, Ophthalmics & Orthoptics both taking the top spot.
The University saw increases in the guide for subjects including Architecture (rising one place to 5th), Pharmacology and Pharmacy (rising four places to 6th), Town and Country Planning and Landscape Design (rising four places to 6th) and Psychology, which has risen eight places to being ranked 7th. Cardiff increased rank in twenty-three subjects overall.
Thirteen of the University's subjects achieved top ten status including Celtic studies (ranked 2nd), Nursing (ranked 6th), Physiotherapy (ranked 8th), Medical Technology & Bioengineering (ranked 8th), and Dentistry (ranked 9th). Italian rose eight places to rank 10th and General Engineering rose seven places to rank 10th.
Vice-Chancellor, Professor Colin Riordan said: "I'm pleased that we've retained our status as the number one university in Wales and risen five places since last year. Despite the challenges we have faced this year, there has been sustained performance and improvements in several subject areas. This is testament to the commitment and expertise of our staff and I'm grateful to them for their efforts.
"However, while it's important for us to understand how we fare in league tables, we do not allow ourselves to be driven by them."
