Description

The University of Kent, the UK’s European university, is one of the country’s most dynamic universities. Established in 1965, it now has over 20,000 students studying at its various campuses including Canterbury, Medway and Tonbridge in the picturesque south-east of England and continental-European sites in Athens, Brussels, Paris, and Rome.

The extensive range of subjects we offer at both undergraduate and postgraduate level are supported by a substantial scholarship fund including awards for excellence, subject and locations specific study, and bursaries to provide eligible students with financial support.

Kent is a research-intensive institution that provides an excellent education delivered by world-class researchers. Its reputation for research and academic excellence is confirmed by its success in the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014. The University is ranked 17th in the UK for research intensity, 97% of its research is of international quality and its score for research power has increased by 59%, the third largest increase of the top 50 research intensive universities.

Kent is also ranked among the best in the UK by three national league tables: The Guardian University Guide, The Times Good University Guide and The Complete University Guide. We have been shortlisted for Exceptional Performance in Teaching and Research (Times Higher Education Data Points Award 2016), and our students are among the UK’s most satisfied with their academic experience. They consistently rate Kent as offering one of the best student experiences in the country and, in the 2016 National Student Survey we achieved the fourth highest score in the UK for ‘overall satisfaction’.

The University is a major educational, economic and cultural force throughout its region, and its position as the gateway to Europe is reinforced by its multinational community: Kent has students from 158 different nationalities, 41% of its academic and research staff are from outside the UK and the curriculum supports study and work abroad opportunities.

The University has global partnerships with many prestigious institutions, both in Europe and beyond, to include the USA, Malaysia, China, Russia, Hong Kong and Japan. These partnerships offer many opportunities for students including exchanges, study visits and work placements, as well as the possibility of earning a dual degree from Kent and a partner university.

Alumni of the University include Kazuo Ishiguro OBE, author and Man Booker prize winner, Gavin Esler, BBC journalist, author and Chancellor of the University, Dame Carolyn McCall DBE, CEO of easyjet, and Canon Dame Sarah Mullally, Bishop in the Church of England.
