The university of Helsinki has many options when it comes to different studies and the variety of subjects. Still, at the moment there are many changes going on and unfortunately that affects the students; for example, renovation of the subjects, lack of employees, lack of professors->their pressure for hard situation of university's economy (people getting fired all of a sudden etc), emphasizing research-based perspective in teaching and learning etc… Of course, every one of these is depending on the subjects, but especially those problems are existing in smaller subjects like educational sciences and anthropology. The University of Helsinki has obviously good qualities like equality, students' possibilities for developing and maintain international relations and also having opportunities to affect things they want to change. Still, at the moment, in my opinion, there are too many things changing and too many small specifics and critical perspectives people want to concentrate on (especially the employees and professors in University of Helsinki). It would be great also if the community of exchange students would be wider and if the University of Helsinki would have the possibility to take more exchanges students, nor mentioned the fact that Finnish people would be more open and "welcome" for exchange students…

The education system is very flexible which meant I could tailor my degree according to my interests more than in other universities, and could work alongside my studies. Found it easy to build relationships with staff, faculty and other students.

I really appreciate the academic freedom at the University of Helsinki as this has given me an opportunity to follow my own agenda. Not only this, but University of Helsinki also provided me with constant support and motivational atmosphere where it was easy to find my own academic path to follow. However, the courses could have been more interactive sometimes in my opinion.

University of Helsinki has talented professors who teach critical thinking early on. Students are treated as adults and courses can be chosen according to one's interests. I like the amount of freedom and quality teaching. There's a lot of courses where students participate. Everyone has their turn in giving something into the discussion and there's a good balance of presenting and opposing. The cons of University of Helsinki are perhaps that some courses are quickly full and information is tricky to find abut nearly anything. The website and operating systems used have been awkward, but some changes and development have been made to these in 2017, the year I graduated.
