The programme that I am following (Master Biological Sciences) is flexible, which is preferable, however, there is little attention for the individual student, which can lead to a student easily getting off the radar for months or longer.

I had a great year doing my masters at the UvA, the professors were extremely helpful and were readily available to support with my thesis. My campus was in the city centre with a beautiful library. However the only downside to the UvA and Amsterdam in general is the housing issue. It is really difficult to find accommodation and if you don't get student housing it is really expensive.

Extensively International environment, rigorous but a very modern course structure (BSc Econ and Business Econ). Easy access to various digital learning resources. Lots of follow up work to keep students in the flow of their work. Beautiful campus, amazing city, fantastic social life However, there's a lack of events designed to help students communicate and integrate into their university life.

I absolutely disliked my time at UvA, I studied there for a year at the economics and business faculty. I didn’t like how students were supposed to do all the work with almost no support from the faculty. Studying at UvA was more like working at a job where there was absolutely no support. In the end I think especially for bachelors degree studying at UvA was the worst decision of my entire life. It was extremely expensive as as international student and the services provided by university weren’t worth it. However the only plus point was I got to meet with a lot of people since the course I was a part of in the first year had almost a 1000 students. So I got to meet a lot of people from all over the world and made lots of friends which I will stay in touch forever.

The University of Amsterdam has a lot of different studies that one can follow. Its versatility in fields of science, as well as locations throughout the city, is amazing. The city of Amsterdam has a great ambiance, there is so much to do culturally and socially. Even though the city is quite big and the UvA is a large institution, the city is easy to get around by bike and the professors and fellow students are approachable. Every study has its own association which makes for nice social events and a way to meet fellow students.

A very good master's programme, in which the main theme is conflict resolution at all levels. Since conflict at all levels is at times quite broad, the programme can sometimes be a little general. During the programme you especially learn to negotiate, facilitate, and resolve conflicts. I really liked the broad choice in electives, and the ability to conduct research in the field on a topic you choose yourself. Especially during the thesis, you are given quite some time and guidance for writing your research proposal, which really benefits you when you go into the field (for up to seven weeks), and write your thesis. I would definitely recommend this programme to a friend!

Starting with the positive: Great facilities, there's plenty of places to eat, socialise and places to study. Everything at least in the R campus, is modern and light, which helps with work. This isn't directly related to the school, but living in Amsterdam is an opportunity to grow and become independent. The negatives: Unfortunately, I have many negative things to say about UvA. The education is mediocre. I was so excited to go to this university, but I found out rather quickly that classes were rarely motivating and engaging. Passing grades are 5.5, which sounds easy to achieve, but it's not. The workload is high, with NO FEEDBACK, or help. The mark-schemes don't make sense, so theres no way to improve, it doesn't matter how many people you ask for assistance. Really this university is selling international education when it's not. On top of that, the bachelor's selection is extremely limited, so in order to change degree, I will now also have to change university. In light of the former, perhaps it is a good thing.
