Description
Modul University Vienna is a private university in Vienna, Austria. It was established in 2007.
Under the motto of "expanding horizons", it describes itself as "an internationally-oriented organisation for research and education on tourism, sustainable development, new media technology and public governance". Some 70 per cent of the student body, which numbered around 650 in 2016 by describing themselves as Modulians, come from outside Austria.
It also bills itself as the "leading research platform for the tourism industry", with "a future-oriented focus that satisfies the needs and ensures the welfare of current and future generations" and as "Austria’s leading private university".
Since 1975 it has been located on the Kupferberg, a hill in the Wienerwald (Vienna Woods) overlooking the city. A second campus was established in Dubai in 2016, and a partnership was formed with Nanjing University in China to provide English-language programmes in tourism and hospitality.
Classes across the four departments – new media technology, sustainability and governance, tourism and service management and business management – are taught in English.
It is accredited by the United Nations World Tourist Organisation and the MBA, a two-year part-time course, is accredited by the UK-based Association of MBAs. Among Modul publications the annual European City Markets Benchmark Report, issued for the 14th time in 2018, is claimed to be among the world’s leading sources of tourism statistics.
