The program in History of Art at Brandeis critically promotes a retrospective analysis of the art of the past, while critically engaging the art of the present. The program offers a variety of courses in ancient to contemporary Western and Asian art. Some courses provide a survey of major developments, while others examine in greater detail major themes, and movements in art, or even exceptional monuments and individuals (such as impressionism and post impressionism, the arts of the Ming Dynasty, the age of cathedrals, history of photography, Saint Peter s and the Vatican, Rubens and Rembrandt, and Frida Kahlo). The Rose Art Museum, located directly on Brandeis campus, offers a unique learning experience for art history majors.
