The teaching degree program in German is made up of the subject areas German linguistics, German Medieval Studies, Modern German Literature and subject-specific pedagogy. Linguistics imparts the ability to analyze concrete language material, from the sound and writing system to syntax and semantic level. Literary science offers theories and methods of analyzing and interpreting German language texts from the early Medieval period to the present. Examples are introduced in differing cultural and sociohistorical connections. Methods of teaching German are discussed and practiced in subject-specific pedagogy.
