Geology is the study of the Earth. At William and Mary the Geology department takes a broad view on the Earth, offering courses that focus on the workings and history of the Earth s interior, surface, and atmosphere. The William and Mary Geology department is among the elite undergraduate programs in the country. The department graduates between 20 and 40 majors per year (a large number for undergraduate programs). The problem solving and analytical thinking required in Geology can be utilized in many other disciplines. The department is training the next generation of earth and environmental scientists, but also helping to educate and critically inform students with a wide range of interests.
