BSc in Geophysics and Oceanography

The Bachelor program Geophysics / Oceanography teaches the scientific foundations for the exploration and description of the solid earth and the oceans with the methods of physics. Both disciplines describe physical processes in the Earth system whose detailed understanding is of great public interest, eg for the prediction of earthquakes or volcanic eruptions, for the mapping of natural resources or for the consequences of climate change for the sea level as well as for nutrient cycles and ecosystems. The training is closely linked to the current research work of the respective institutes. Early on, students have the opportunity to work on projects, take part in maritime surveys or participate in the analysis of data and the modeling of physical processes on mainframes.
