Anyone who studies English opens up a global horizon. Because English is more widespread today than any other language and therefore of international importance, especially in business and science. The Anglophone culture also influences other areas of our daily lives such as media, film, music or advertising. Anglistics focus on the enormous variety of linguistic, literary and socio-cultural phenomena of the English-speaking world in the present and the past. Last but not least, these analyzes lead to a better understanding of global and local cultural change, as well as social and political challenges that, with English being the most important lingua franca. This is supported at the University of Basel by a strong cultural and interdisciplinary approach. The course is divided into the three areas of literary studies, linguistics and language education.
