Mechatronics is a new and innovative engineering discipline. It is a unique combination of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and computer science and forms the backbone of Industry 4.0. Many areas of mechanical engineering, as well as automotive, production and microsystems engineering, are seeing the creation of innovative products with solutions that can only be achieved via the interaction of mechanical, electrical, electronic and information-processing components. Examples include anti-lock braking systems in vehicles and robots in automation.
