Master in Near and Middle Eastern Studies

The master's program Near & Middle Eastern Studies at the Department of Middle East Studies at the University of Basel deals with historical, cultural, social and political issues of the Islamic-influenced eastern Mediterranean from Sarajevo to Cairo . Thus, the Master's program is characterized by the inclusion of Southeastern Europe, today's Republic of Turkey and the Eastern Arab World (including Egypt). In Basel, the emphasis is on the profiling focus on Near Eastern Studies - compared with comparable study programs in Switzerland and at German-speaking universities in general. In terms of time, developments from the early modern period from about 1500 to the present day are taken into consideration.
