University students enrolled in String Pedagogy Program (called interns) study the teaching techniques and philosophies of pedagogues such as Galamian, Fisher, Rolland, Kendall and Suzuki. In addition, interns study interdisciplinary topics and their relationship to music teaching and learning. Subjects included in this segment of their education include: human cognition, motivation theory, child development, kinesthetics [awareness of the body s role in playing a stringed instrument], teaching and working with parents and the business of running a private music studio. As part of their coursework, all interns teach in the UNM LAB SCHOOL.
