BA in Music

The Music Department is the steward of a program of musical studies that is inclusive of many musics, comprehensive of modes of inquiry and ways of knowing, and connected to the academic and social life on the university. Our program includes Western art music ( classical music ), non-Western music (world music, ethnic music, folk music, traditional music), and American music (film music, gospel music, jazz, musical theater, and popular music ). Faculty and students in the Music Department engage in musical study through the disciplines of Composition, Ethnomusicology, Music Theory, Musicology, Musical Science and Engineering, and Performance.
