From low-power processors for mobile phone technology to heavy-duty power electronics for wind turbines, the design of electronic and electrical systems is challenging and requires a clear understanding of both the physics and the broader system in which it operates, necessitating teamwork and the determination to find ingenious solutions. Many of the advances in computer design and communications technology over the last 50 years have resulted from the interaction between electronics and computer science. These two disciplines therefore form a natural combination for a joint honours, where software engineering skills sit alongside the knowledge of hardware design.
