Description
Perioperative Fluid Therapy is a web-based learning resource designed to help clinicians and those engaged in the care of the surgical patient to improve their knowledge and understanding of which intravenous fluid therapies are most appropriate for treating patients during, before and after an operation.
In this course you will review the physiology of fluid homeostasis, analyse and appraise the different options for fluid therapy used in perioperative resuscitation, and discuss strategies in choosing the composition of fluid in the context of surgical losses. We will review the literature and best evidence available so you can form your own opinions as to what is the most appropriate fluid therapy in a number of perioperative settings.
Fluid therapy remains a controversial subject in perioperative patient management, with variable recommendations stated in the literature for the composition and volume of the fluid given. Enrolled participants will have access to interactive learning materials, opinions from world experts and be directed to the key evidence-based journal articles and clinical guidelines on the subject. The course is written in a way which presents the case for and against controversial subjects allowing learners to form their own opinions.
The course has been designed primarily aimed at hospital staff involved in the care of patients in the perioperative period. This includes anaesthetists, surgeons, physicians, theatre and clinic nurses as well as operating department practitioners of all training grades.
