Description

The doctoral school in Ecology has gradually developed as a mixed platform for training and improvement of human resources and basic and applied research that meets the objectives of "post-normal science" focused on knowledge and management of nature and human society, organized in socio-complexes. ecological hierarchies at different spatio-temporal scales. Its mission has been developed to fulfill a multiple role: i) training of quality human resources; ii) basic and applied research and iii) methodological and cognitive transfer in order to meet the requirements for the development and application of transdisciplinary knowledge within socio-ecological complexes, which is the subject of sustainable development policies and programs. The conceptual model of the doctoral school is based and structured on the principles of systemic ecology (eg spatio-temporal organization; nonlinearity; integrity / holism) and the inter- and transdisciplinary approach to the complexity of nature and socio-economic systems. The activities within the doctoral school are inter and transdisciplinary. The team involved has expertise in Systemic Ecology and the Science of Sustainability and in the study of the complexity of ecological systems at different spatial and temporal scales. The development and evolution of the Doctoral School of Ecology in its current form was carried out in parallel with that of the Department of Systemic Ecology and Sustainability (DESS) and was significantly influenced by the establishment in 1992, within DESS, of the Unesco-Cousteau Department of Ecotechnics. Together, they were the promoters of the Romanian university education reform in the field of Environmental Sciences, inextricably linked to scientific research, allowing the establishment of multi and interdisciplinary teams, in a framework based on a flexible structure, which includes professors, PhD students and researchers. The quality of the research carried out and the results obtained made it possible to recognize and integrate into prestigious international networks (eg ALTER-Net - A Long-Term Biodiversity, Ecosystem and Awareness Research Network, Lanscape's Europe Network; European Nature Conservation Network; LIFE WATCH - E -Science European Infrastructure for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Research). The potential and scientific performance and those in the field of application, have supported the role of promoter that DESS and the Doctoral School in Ecology have fulfilled in the design and development of the national network for long-term ecological research (NLTER) and its integration in similar networks. at European (ELTER / April / 2004) and global (ILTER / September / 2003) level.
