Description

The target of the study programme is to provide students with a further education in chemistry. The Master’s programme not only offers the option of focusing on a specialist area but students will also acquire the necessary skills for this and they will learn to think independently and act responsibly. Graduates should be able to assess the characters of chemical compounds and to apply the necessary methods for solving challenging chemical problems. Methods, procedures, research and industrial fields of activity are constantly changing, so it is the aim of the chemistry programme to teach students the necessary knowledge in a way that enables them to familiarise themselves quickly with new developments, to be introduced to new areas and to make independent contributions to further developments of research and technology in their specialised area once they have finished their programme. The Master’s examination is the second professional chemistry degree. During the four semesters of the Master’s programme, which follow on from the six semesters of the Bachelor’s programme, students will acquire the profound, specialised knowledge necessary for the transition to professional practice. The broad spectrum of the academic programme will ensure that students acquire the skills necessary for demanding fields of activity in industry, economy and administration. Special focus areas at the Universität Frankfurt: Research carried out by Universität Frankfurt’s chemistry department extends to Life Sciences and Material Sciences and focuses on Structural research, Molecular mechanisms, Membrane proteomics, and New matter: from molecule to matter. The Master’s programme mirrors these focus areas so that students can decide whether or not they want to choose a broad range of focus areas in their study programme, or if they want to focus on one particular focus area: biomolecular chemistry, synthesis and catalysis, structure, dynamics and function, or analytics. These focus areas correspond to the areas of research in which university teachers are strong, and present attractive, forward-looking fields of research. The courses offered in the Master’s programme are no longer divided strictly into classical subjects and institutes but rather organised thematically and often taught in an interdisciplinary fashion.
