Belarusian State University first opened its doors in 1921, having been initially founded in 1919, and has since established itself as one of the premier institutions for higher education in Belarus.
The university is based in Minsk, the Belarusian capital. Whilst it has facilities throughout the city proper, the main campus is near the city centre. This houses the bulk of the university's social and academic facilities, as well as providing students making use of the accommodation there easy access to the city of Minsk itself. It also plays host to the universities IT resources, including its own supercomputer. These facilities allow Belarus State University to provide a wide range of subjects for both undergraduate and postgraduate study.
Belarusian State University is active in numerous fields of research, and houses four separate research institutions. A key aspect to the university’s commitment to research, as well as its overall aims as a higher education institution, is its dedication to international co-operation. As well as having accepted a large number of foreign students, the university also invests in sending its own students abroad, with the aim of expanding its own reach internationally and allowing for its students to be exposed to the latest cultural and technological innovations.
