Description

The University of Warsaw is Poland’s largest university, and one of its most prestigious.

It offers courses in humanities, social sciences and natural sciences, as well as a range of interdisciplinary programmes.

While most teaching is in Polish, the university offers more than 20 programmes which are taught in English, including economics, business, and political science.

Students at the institution also have the opportunity to take courses in one of 36 languages which are on offer.

Warsaw is an international university, with thousands of foreign students, researchers and academics, including those participating in the European Union’s Erasmus programmes.

The heart of the university remains its historical main campus, in the centre of Warsaw, which includes buildings dating back to the 17th century. The natural sciences campus is more modern.

The history of the university itself stretches back to 1816, when it was founded by a decree issued by the Russian tsar, Alexander I.

This first iteration of the institution lasted only 15 years before it was closed, amid growing clamour for Polish independence from Russia. Amid temporary liberalisation, the university was reopened in 1862, but was then closed in 1869 and was replaced with the Imperial University of Warsaw, a Russian-language institution.

It was not until 1915 that the Polish university was reopened, this time under German rule and subsequent independence. The university was again closed under Nazi rule in the Second World War, but many academics risked their lives to continue their teaching in secret.

Five Warsaw graduates have won Nobel prizes, including the physicist Joseph Rotblat, and the former Israeli Prime Minister, Menachem Begin.

Other notable alumni include the composer Frédéric Chopin and David Ben-Gurion, the founding Prime Minister of Israel.

One of the best things about this university is the amazing library, which during exams sessions is open all night. There are quite a lot o activities next to regular classes, a lot of languages courses to choose from and very good sports offer. The main campus is very nicely located and pretty but unfortunately many faculties are not located there and then the quality of infrastructure differs very much, sometimes being quite bad. When it comes to classes, it is nice that you can signup for many extra subjects that are not part of your major (such as a history of cinema or knowleadge about Warsaw). The biggest disadvantage is an oldschools style of teaching and testing but it also depends on the faculty. Overall it is a good university with a lot of opportunities.

One of the best universities in Poland, level of studies is deviersified - can can learn a lot if you want and you will study on your own, but also you can pass with minimal grades and get your diploma with no knowledge. Very nice central library and good locations of different campuses. Teachers are ok, some of them are gret specialists but some seems to be ust randomly assigned to the subject they teach. Lots of possibilities for exchanges and volountary/student work. Generally, esier than western univerisites but offers a good range of different majors.

With no doubt Warsaw University is one of Europe's oldest and most prestigious universities and lately they've been receiving hundreds of International students as they offer plenty of programs in English language, so that's the positive thing about Warsaw University. On the other hand, the administration and International offices in a lot of the faculties seem to be pretty corrupted as the employees are not that keen to do their job which makes a simple blank paper to take about 5-6 months until they give it to you. So to summarize, Warsaw university is a great place to study in ONLY if you are willing to keep rushing and pressuring the working staff to finish up whatever procedure you want/need otherwise there will be huge confusions at the end of the day.

University of Warsaw offers a variety of faculties and specializations so you can most probably find one that matches your interests. I studied there linguistics and I am satisfied with the practical courses. If you are motivated you can get the best out of this experience and improve your language skills. However, I believe the University should also develop your overall knowledge and attitudes, empower their students but I did not feel it is taking care of this area of personal development enough. It is definitely worth combining your Warsaw experience with an Erasmus one - you should not have troubles with the formalities. The minus points of the University is its administration and lack of pro-student attitude I did not feel truly welcomed or inspired to develop my knowledge although it is considered to be one of the most prestigious ones to study at in Poland. What I can recommend is combining your educational experience with the practical one by joining one of the student organizations. It was something that made my student time more enjoyable and interesting. The one I decided to get involved in is European Students' Forum AEGEE-Warszawa where I met students from different Warsaw universities but also different corners of Europe and discovered new things about others and myself.

Perfect University with good reputation. By graduating one can find easily job. The level of education is very high, but professors do not give the knowledge to students. Student should study by himself, if so, will be enough to put robots in...
