1952Description
With over 100,000 students, South China University of Technology (SCUT) is one of the largest universities in the country.
Founded in 1952, in the coastal province of Guangdong, SCUT was the result of an amalgamation of a number of polytechnic universities that existed within the vicinity. Although its initial focus was on engineering and technology, by 1960 it had grown to become one of China’s leading institutions of higher learning. In 1981 it began to offer master’s and doctoral degrees and became known by its present name from 1988 onwards.
SCUT today is a multidisciplinary university offering programmes in arts, sciences, social sciences and business management.
SCUT is one of the few universities approved by China’s Ministry Of Education to accept international students on Chinese Government Scholarships.
International students are divided between those taking the Chinese language program and those studying for undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.
