More details about the program

Description

The Art History and Visual Culture teaching programme is designed to equip students with the concepts and language necessary for contemporary discussion of art, art history, art theory and art criticism. The special focus of the programme is the diversity of theory in the discourses of art. The Art History and Visual Culture programme at the University of Otago is unique in its diversity and breadth. Enjoy the opportunity to develop your visual literacy and analytical skills by pursuing courses across the Humanities that study high art, popular culture, and their intersection as a feature of contemporary life. You will have hands-on access to exceptional collections at the Dunedin Public Art Gallery, the Hocken Collections, Toitu Otago Settlers Museum, and the Otago Museum. The Bachelor of Arts and Science (BASc) adds to the range of options available. It enables graduates to present themselves to employers and the world at large as people who have real expertise in both the sciences and the humanities.
