Description

Seoul National University Department of Anthropology was first established in 1961 as a joint department with archaeology and became a separate department in 1975 under the roof of the College of Social Sciences. The first and oldest of its kind in Korean universities, SNU Department of Anthropology today has 11 faculty members specializing in various subfields and regional areas. A strong and vibrant community in research and education, the Department runs the Institute of Cross-Cultural Studies (ICCS) and the Biological Anthropology Lab, and publishes two academic journals, Bigyo munhwa yeongu [Cross-Cultural Studies] and Korean Anthropology Review. Students organize and participate in undergraduate anthropology clubs and conferences, graduate workshops, and other department activities year-around.
