Description
Graduates of the Degree Programme in Imaging and Radiotherapy Techniques, as defined by decree of the Ministry of University, Scientific, and Technological Research of 2 April 2001, and subsequent amendments, are health professionals authorised to perform, autonomously or in collaboration with other health professionals, interventions requiring the use of both artificial and natural ionising radiation sources, thermal and ultrasonic energy, and nuclear magnetic resonance as well as interventions for physical or dosimetric protection. They participate in task planning and organisation within their work structure. They manage the provision of multipurpose services in direct collaboration with radiologists, nuclear medicine physicians, radiation oncologists, and health physicists according to predefined diagnostic and therapeutic protocols. They are responsible for ensuring the correct functioning of equipment, eliminating minor problems, and implementing quality control measures in order to guarantee adhesion to predefined indicators and standards. They contribute to the training of support staff and to their lifelong learning in respect to their professional profile and research. As part of the training of the imaging and radiotherapy technician, the university ensures adequate training in the field of ionising radiation protection.
