Description
The history of the spread and development of Spanish into one of the most spoken languages in the world is characterized by transgressions and different cultural contacts - just think of the five centuries of Muslim presence or the colonization of America. The study of Hispanic Studies is correspondingly versatile. The linguistic section looks at the geographical, social and stylistic varieties of European and American Spanish, the presence of Spanish in other parts of the world and the evolution of the language from late antiquity to the present day. In literary studies, the emphasis is on the culture of the Iberian Peninsula from the Middle Ages to the present, with particular reference to the Golden Age (the Siglos de Oro), as well as the Hispano-American literature. The study of literature also includes their cultural, social, historical and political contexts. An essential part of the study is also the perfecting of the language skills in Spanish.
