Peking University has a long history of Japanese language subjects, dating back to the time of the Beijing Shitong Museum. When Peking University established the Department of Oriental Language and Literature in 1946, it formally established the Japanese language discipline under the name of the Japanese language and literature major, which was the earliest Japanese language and literature major in China's colleges and universities. This major was approved in 1986 as the first doctoral point in the field of Japanese language and literature in China. In 1987, he established the Institute of Japanese Culture, Peking University. Later, according to the needs of discipline development, the japanese culture research direction was added, and changed its name to Japanese language and culture major, becoming the first Japanese language, Japanese literature, Japanese culture in China's institutions of higher learning three disciplines complete direction, with bachelor's, master's, doctor's degree grant authority.
