Majors study to achieve advanced level proficiency in the language as well as a solid foundation in the civilization and literature of the countries in which that language is spoken. The annual portfolio process allows majors to measure their progress in a supportive environment. The program is enhanced by study abroad opportunities in Quebec and France for French majors and Costa Rica, Spain, and other Spanish-speaking countries for Spanish majors. A B.A. degree allows graduates to pursue careers that require foreign language proficiency or graduate school. When you major in French at Ashland University, you get to know your professors well and benefit from mentoring that would only be possible in our small class environment. Using our state-of-the-art language lab facility and multimedia classrooms, you will learn to speak, read, listen and write French well as you also discover the rich beauty of French civilization, culture and literature.
