Description
China has one of the strongest and fastest growing economies in the world, and understanding the Chinese culture and language can make you a more desirable job candidate. This course introduces theories of identity, discourse, and communication, and illustrates how Asian and Middle Eastern cultures employ language to construct and reflect values, identities and institutions, to create relationships and project personal status, and to perform actions (such as ending a phone call, apologizing, paying compliments, and negotiating business deals). Being able to use Arabic also gives you access to roughly 1500 years of Arab cultural riches. Why read the Bible in Hebrew For one thing, every translation is an interpretation. If you can read Hebrew, you can better decide for yourself what the literature means.
