Description

Based in Newcastle, one of the liveliest cities in the UK, is Northumbria University, built in 1969 and formerly known as Newcastle Polytechnic.

It became Northumbria University in 1992 and today is home to 20 schools and departments, and around 35,000 students from about 135 countries.

Internationally, it has partnership arrangements with universities around the world to provide learning for students outside the UK. These include the Northumbria- BINUS Design School in Jakarta, Indonesia. Northumbria also works with Kaplan to offer degrees in Singapore.

The university’s UK base consists of three campuses. The main one is in the centre of Newcastle and has recently benefited from a £200 million investment. It includes many of the university’s schools, as well as the main library, a gallery, high-tech laboratories, and the main student’s union, complete with bars and music venues.

Northumbria recently introduced its new multi-million pound Sport Centre, which caters for up to 3,000 and features a swimming pool, a sprint track, squash courts and multi-use sports halls.

Its Coach Lane campus also has its own sports facilities complete with a fitness suite, indoor courts and all-weather outdoor pitches. It also houses its own library and modern study facilities.

The third campus is in London, situated near Liverpool Street in the City, and offers full-time and part-time programmes in business, computing, cyber studies, project management and technology.

The University Library achieves some of the highest levels of student satisfaction in the UK and has held the Cabinet Office accreditation for Customer Service Excellence since 2010. It provides access to more than 550,000 print books, 822,000 ebooks and 108,000 print and electronic journals. IT support for students is available day and night throughout the year.

As well as working with higher education institutions around the world, Northumbria boasts connections with major employers such as Nike, the BBC and the NHS. Many of the university’s programmes are sponsored or accredited by leading employers and professional bodies.

Northumbria’s alumni network comprises around 186,000 people from about 170 countries, and includes Victoria Pendleton, Britain’s Olympic gold medal-winning cyclist.

I went to Northumbria Business School as an exchange student. The courses were very interesting and they provided extra english classes to the foreign students which have helped us to improve our academic writing. The evaluation method is based on the class participation as well as on the assignment delivered at the end of the course.

Although it is not a Russell Group or a well known prestigious University, Northumbria University exceeded my expectations in actively encouraging every student to make the most out of their time at University, to graduate with more than just a degree. Northumbria University strives to ensure that every student regardless of background receives equal opportunities to support their learning and enhance their employability skills. Most notably their Business Clinic allowed me to develop a multitude of skills and apply what I had learnt in a practical setting. During this time I worked directly with a local SME as a consultant as part of my final year project. This alongside Northumbria's drive to encourage placement years or to study abroad offers students a competitive advantage. As such, I would highly recommend this University.

You never forget your university years and Northumbria University makes those years even more memorable. I attended the science and arts school during my undergrad and I then joined the Northumbria law school for my post grad. Their facilities have been improving consistently. They developed a brand new law and business school which expanded the grounds of the university. They have their own law library as well as mock law courts to really make you experience the reality of becoming a lawyer. I received exceptional support from all teaching staff at Northumbria. They have an open door policy and I can’t complain about any of my tutors. They were always available to help and each lecture was delivered with great organisation. I fully enjoyed my time at Northumbria university, it’s a modern school with many facilities that help students excel in their studies. Highly recommend it.

I was at Northumbria during my exchange program and I loved everything about it! The staff was great and really helpful, the campus was big, clean and modern, the services offered (gym, pool, sports teams) were great, the location of the campus right in the center of Newcastle is also ideal and the overall environment of the university is what makes it such a good school. It is really easy to find accommodation and there are alternatives for every budget. The business school is demanding, but it prepares you for the future. I highly recommend!

I graduate in MSc Engineering Management from Northumbria University in 2019. I studied there for 2 years and every day I felt there was something new to learn or participate in the University. It is located in the city centre which is very advantageous as you are close to many shops, restaurants, cafes and whatnot. Coming to the faculty - They are well trained, professional and diverse based on their backgrounds. University facilities and the Student's Union - University library is open 24hrs except on holidays and other important days. Staff are very friendly and they help you in career-related services by organising weekly sessions and open days. The student union was one of the best highlights of my uni life. They always organise events which are multi-cultural and have the best bar with affordable prices on drinks and food. The student's union is always at the forefront in solving the issue of the students and make sure everyone is receiving all the facilities required from the university. I was working as Meet and Greet office for the International office of the University and now you can easily know why I said it is very international and diverse. Accommodation- Northumbria has on-campus accommodation and some outside the campus areas. The accommodation prices vary and that gives you an option to choose within your price range.
