Description

The Ivan Franko National University of Lviv began life as a Jesuit college in 1661. It started with two faculties, in philosophy and theology and in 1919, when Galicia became part of the Republic of Poland, the university was named after Jaz Kazimierz. In 1940, it changed its name to the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, after the famous Ukrainian writer, politician and activist. Ivan Franko studied at the university’s faculty of philosophy in the 1870s.

It became a national university in 1999 and is one of the oldest universities in Eastern Europe.

The university comprises 17 faculties: biology, chemistry, journalism, economics, electronics, philology, philosophy, physics, geography, geology, history, foreign languages, culture and art, applied mathematics and informatics, mechanics and mathematics, law and international relations. It also includes three colleges, an Institute of Postgraduate Study and Pre-University Training. The faculty of economics is based in both Sambor and Chervonohrad.

The mathematics departments are considered to be some of the best in Eastern Europe. Stefan Banach, father of functional analysis, was a former professor and scholar and greatly influenced the programme.

The university publishes over 40 science journals and there are extensive science and research facilities on campus. These include some 17 laboratories, seven institutes, six museums, an astronomical observatory and a botanical garden. Six of the university’s buildings have been granted a national heritage status.

It has established over 90 agreements with other universities and higher education institutions from 33 different countries.

It is located in Lviv, in Lviv Oblast, Western Ukraine. It is the seventh largest city in the Ukraine, with a population of approximately 730,000 people.

This is just an average university with a known name because of the success of the previous years. Now the standards are getting lower with every class accepted, and the corruption is scavenging some of the faculties from the inside. The best thing the uni offers to you - you can get a good education if you are really motivated, leaving a lot of things for your own. I thought I had a good education until I moved to Europe, now I realize how outdated is the system in Franko.

University in Ukraine is known and has a high authority, so many interesting and intelligent people choose it. But after a certain time of training in it, a part decides or ends training, or engage in self-education. The university does not have the opportunity to participate in various grants, exchanges and business trips. The university employs people aren't interested in the development of students and work under the old Soviet training scheme. Programs are irrelevant, although some teachers want to change them, yet the requirements do not allow it.

Ok, it's one of the oldest universities in Europe. So what? A lot of not so smart teachers, high level of corruption, old methods of teaching, much bureaucracy. In general, I'm disappointed. Can't advise to enter this university.

Necessary urgent improvement of the qualification level of teachers. The faculty "Electronics" lacks qualified teachers who can provide modern knowledge in programming, testing or management. The material submitted does not correspond to the present. the main reason for the lack of good teachers is low wages. During the years of study, I faced corruption at many faculties, although there was practically no case at my faculty.

Definitely studying to be someone special, be smart and intelligent. It's a great opportunity and start for someone. But when you try to do something really big it kills your trying and ambitions. It's disappointing

I really don't like this university. Some professors are rude and strange, don't explain the material as it should be done. They twice lost my documents and said I did not bring it. The studying process is badly organised, we receive our schedule 1-2 days before studying should start, we receive the dates of our exams one-two weeks before their start.
