Film and TV Faculty of The Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava as the largest producer of short film production in Slovakia participates in many film events, shares actively in the organization of events promoting short film work, enters student films at festivals and intermediates participation in international workshops for our students. It is a member of the international organization of university-level film schools, CILECT (Centre International de Liaison des Ecoles de Cinéma et Télévision).
The Festival Department of Film and TV Faculty of The Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava originated in 1995. With Slovakia’s accession to the EU in 2004 the range of offers for cooperation and representation of the school almost tripled, and FTF VŠMU works appear on average at 150 festivals and film events annually, in about 40 countries in the world.
During the mentioned statistical period (1995 – 2017) films from our production were shown at 1,899 festivals and events, winning 556 domestic and international awards. Among recent successes belong inclusion in competitions of the most prestigious A-list festivals like the Cinéfondation section in Cannes (Atlantis, 2003 – d. Michal Blaško, 2017, Thanks, fine – d. Mátýas Prikler, 2009), the Short Cuts section at the MFF Toronto (Magic Moments – d. Martina Buchelová, 2016) or entry in the semifinals of the Academy Awards for the Oscar for student work (The Ballad of Theresa and Simon – d. Martin Hnát, 2015).
In the Film and TV Faculty of The Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava portfolio are to be found fiction, documentary and animated films of various genres – from the engaged, reacting to contemporary global themes through comedies, drama, adaptations, and movies for the children. All are marked by the personal developing signature of young authorial filmmakers.
