It offers the MD degree as well as graduate education in biomedical sciences, public health and health care delivery science. Its Thayer School of Engineering is also one of the oldest of its kind in the States. As well as undergraduate degrees, it offers a Master of Engineering Management and what is the nation’s first PhD Innovation Programme. As well as drawing in sponsored research money totalling around $210 million, Dartmouth College has been classified by the Carnegie Foundation as a research university with very high research activity. In addition to this, its operating expenses typically exceed $800 million each year and it has an endowment valued at more than $4.5 billion. Dartmouth’s traditions include a ‘Homecoming’ night when alumni return to their alma mater and take part in a parade and bonfire – dating back to 1888 – along with the current crop of students. While every spring brings the Dartmouth Pow-Wow, which draws hundreds of participants from across the Northeast to celebrate and experience Native American culture and history.

The engineering coursework includes projects and labs, which is crucial when choosing to work in industry.
