Description

With the growing proliferation of computers as standard parts of many facilities (even at those which until recently did not anticipate them), demand is also growing for professionals with knowledge of programming, computer networks, hardware and also mathematics. Instruction. Parties interested in “penetrating the mysteries” of computer science have had help from the Department of Computer Science at FEI since 1990. The effort by members of the Department is to make available to students as much as possible a broader circle of current knowledge in the fields of Computer Science, Computer Technology and Mobile Technology. The basic level of this knowledge is provided in a three-year Bachelor’s study and gradually is expanded through more specialised two-year Master’s studies through studies at the Doctoral level. Knowledge acquired is both of a theoretical character – from the fields of logic, algorithms and their complexities, as well as of a practical character – from the fields of creating applications of the most diverse types, computer networks, chip designs, digital processing and analysis of images, technical and geographical visualization, as well as, for example, from the fields of project solutions. The study program is offered in presentation or in combined form with support from high quality study materials (e.g. animation) as well as virtual laboratories (fig. virtlab.png). Practical instruction takes place in computer (fig. ucebna.jpg, ucebna_notebooky.jpg) or hardware classrooms, in computer network classrooms (fig. lab_1.jpg, lab_2.jpg ) or, for example, in the laboratories for visualization, virtual reality and digital image processing. Under its administration, the Department has several servers, which are operated under the MS Windows or Linux operating systems. For study of mobile technology, there is an entire array of mobile equipment available on various platforms (fig. mobilni_zarizeni_1.jpg, mobilni_zarizeni_2.jpg). A matter of course is connection of all computers to the university network and through it to the Internet. All classrooms are covered by the WiFi network, during instruction students may use their own computers.
